Six controls come up on almost every renewal. Here is what each one means for a 40-person office.

Most renewals we saw this year asked the same six questions. None of them are exotic, and an office that can answer all six honestly usually gets a better premium.
The six controls
Multi-factor sign-in on email and remote access
Endpoint protection on every laptop and server
Backups kept separate from your network, and tested
Patching within a set number of days
Security training for staff
A written incident response plan
Where offices get stuck
Usually on the word tested. Insurers want to know that someone restored a file and wrote down how long it took. We do that every month and put it in the report.
If your renewal is coming up, send us the questionnaire. We will tell you which answers are true today and what it would take to make the rest true.
